Terms and Conditions

1. Who we are

GolfMate is a platform that helps golfers find playing partners, organise rounds, and track scores. The Website (golfmate.io) and App are owned and operated by Acid IO.

GolfMate does not book tee times or reserve golf facilities. Any arrangement with a golf course is the sole responsibility of the User.

2. Accepting these Terms

By accessing or using the Website or App you agree to these Terms in full, including our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, do not use GolfMate.

You must be 18 or over to use GolfMate and have legal capacity to enter into contracts. Users aged 13–17 may use the service only with parental or guardian consent and supervision.

3. Your account and responsibilities

Accurate information: Provide truthful details — name, email, handicap index — and keep them up to date. Do not impersonate others or create multiple accounts.

Lawful use only: Use the App only for lawful purposes. Fraudulent, abusive, or misleading use may result in account suspension and reporting to relevant authorities.

Account security: Keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity on your account.

4. Handicap Index (HCP)

Your HCP is a self-reported indicator of your playing ability, used to facilitate balanced matches. You are responsible for entering an honest and accurate HCP and updating it as your game improves or regresses.

GolfMate may adjust your platform ranking after validated match results. This is distinct from and does not replace any official World Handicap System (WHS) index you may hold.

Deliberately misrepresenting your HCP to gain an unfair advantage is a breach of these Terms and our Community Guidelines.

5. Organising and joining matches

Creating a match: Hosts set the details (course, date, format, player limit) and manage join requests. Published matches may be open to all Users or restricted to invited connections.

Joining a match: Browse open matches on the Home or Explore screen, submit a join request, and wait for the host to approve. Once approved you are confirmed as a participant.

Responsibility: GolfMate facilitates the connection but does not guarantee the match will take place. Tee time arrangements and all course-related matters are between the players and the golf course.

No-shows: If you cannot attend, leave the match promptly via the App. Repeated unexplained no-shows may result in account restrictions.

6. Scores and results

Submission: Hole-by-hole scores may be submitted during or after a round, within 7 days of the match date.

Validation: All match participants are invited to confirm or dispute the submitted scorecard. If no participant disputes a result within 24 hours of submission, it is automatically confirmed.

Confirmed results: Once confirmed, results cannot be edited in the App. To request a correction, email [email protected] with written agreement from all participants.

Valid results: A result is valid only when it lists all players who actually participated. Results with incorrect participant lists are null.

GolfMate may nullify results in cases of irresolvable dispute or evidence of manipulation.

7. Community guidelines

Respect: Treat all golfers with respect. No offensive, discriminatory, or hateful language or conduct.

Fair play: Play honestly. Cheating, score manipulation, or deliberate misrepresentation of results is prohibited.

Communication: Keep in-app messages courteous and golf-related. Do not harass, threaten, or spam other Users.

Privacy: Do not share another User's personal information withouttheir consent.

Violations may result in warnings, temporary restrictions, or permanent account suspension. Report concerns to [email protected].

8. Cancellations

You may leave a match you have joined at any time before it starts, directly via the App. Hosts may cancel a match before it begins. GolfMate may cancel a match that violates these Terms or poses a risk to Users.

Once a match has taken place and scores have been submitted or validated, result corrections must be requested via [email protected] with written agreement from all participants.

9. Intellectual property

All Website and App content — text, graphics, logos, software, and data — is the property of GolfMate or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. You are granted a limited, personal, non-commercial licence to use the App. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works from any GolfMate content without written permission.

10. User-generated content

You retain ownership of content you submit (match details, scores, messages). By submitting content you grant GolfMate a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it to operate and improve the service. GolfMate may remove content that violates these Terms.

Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, match history, scores, and messages. This action cannot be undone.

11. Data protection

Your personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy (golfmate.io/privacy) and in compliance with UK GDPR and EU Regulation 2016/679. By using the App you confirm the accuracy of the personal data you provide.

12. Limitation of liability

Golf and outdoor activities carry inherent physical risks. GolfMate does not assume responsibility for injuries, accidents, or damage incurred during matches or related activities. You participate at your own risk.

You agree to indemnify GolfMate against claims arising from your use of the App, your content submissions, or your breach of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

EU users may access the European Commission Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. UK users may contact Citizens Advice for guidance.

14. Termination

GolfMate may suspend or terminate your access immediately and without notice for breach of these Terms. You may close your account at any time from within the App or by emailing [email protected].

15. Changes to these Terms

GolfMate may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be notified via the App or email at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
